Something is happening here but you don’t know what it is.
This is the thrill that lies at the heart of the murder mystery.
I love the small theatre, the domestic noir, the mind games. When I’m reading (or watching for that matter) nothing intrigues me more than those scenes where people are having a conversation, but the detective, and the reader, are wondering what they are really thinking, how they really feel about each other, what they know that they aren’t saying.
This is my milieu – stories about people who know each other well, or maybe they don’t. A mind game. A psychological mystery about what is going on inside people’s heads.
It is the kind of intrigue that structures The Slipping Place.
